Prison Liaison / Family Services

Eligibility

Individuals who are currently incarcerated in the maritime federal institutions, ex-offenders and family members are eligible for services with the program. Referrals can be made in the following ways: self referred, by family members, other correctional agencies and community based organizations.

General Program Description

The Prison Liaison/Family Services Program provides counselling, support, and advocacy to federal inmates, ex-inmates, their families and friends.

Counselling is provided on a one-to-one basis and continues until client/worker decide to move on. There is no fee for service and no restriction. Counselling is provided during incarceration and post-release.

Three Federal Prison Visits are conducted throughout the year and Newfoundland Federal inmates interviewed on request. Worker provides support, counselling, and service to Newfoundlanders in Atlantic, Dorchester, Springhill, Westmorland Institutions and Nova Institutions.

Family Service includes support and counselling, assistance, visiting Federal institutions and provision of information on the Federal Prison System. Counselling is provided individually while the offender is incarcerated or after release. Marital or couple counselling is provided on request.

Worker also acts as liaison between family and offender or family and prisons.

Specialized Services / Additional Program Features

The Prison Liaison worker makes three visits per year to the federal institutions.

In addition to regular program duties, the worker plans, organizes and co-ordinates the Annual Family Prison Visit.
