Housing Support Worker -Garrison Place, St. John’s

Summary:
Under the supervision of the Residential Manager, the Housing Support Worker, using a Housing First framework, provides housing support services to clients of the John Howard Society improve housing stability and reduce homelessness.
Responsibilities:
- Completes file reviews, assessments and reports as required.
- Prepares, documents, implements and monitors personalized support plans with each tenant of Garrison Place.
- Delivers evidence-based interventions to the tenants to enhance their daily living.
- Identifies problem areas and intervenes effectively in crisis situations.
- Maintains collaboration with John Howard Society programs and partner agencies for the purpose of case management, alternative program referral and client advocacy.
- Develops and presents information sessions to clients and community agencies.
- Attends program related meetings as required.
- Engages with landlords to help develop additional suitable affordable housing for John Howard Society clients.
- Maintains accurate electronic and manual client records and a process for statistical data collection.
- Provides transportation to clients as required.
- Contributes to the orientation/training of staff/interns/volunteers.
- Engages in professional development as required.
- Ensures confidentiality guidelines are met regarding staff and client information.
- Shares responsibility for maintaining a safe, secure environment for both staff and clients.
- Performs other related duties as required by the Residential Manager.
Qualifications:
- University degree in Social Work, Criminology or the social sciences. (psychology, sociology or education).
- Demonstrated knowledge and a minimum of one-year experience working in non-profit housing.
- Experience with and a demonstrated understanding of the offender population and others with complex needs.
- Broad understanding of the criminal justice system.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Proven competency in computer software.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Multilingual skills and multicultural competence are an asset.
- Certificate of conduct.
- Enhanced reliability check as required.

Salary: $32.04/hour as per collective agreement; 35 hours per week.
