Group Home Counsellor (full-time- temporary) Home for Youth, St. John’s

Position: 8 months’ full-time temporary position (75 hours bi-weekly) With the possibility of extension.
Duties: Provide counselling and a wide variety of services related to youth in a residential setting. This position will require a successful applicant to work both day, evenings, weekends, and Overnight (if necessary) as per schedule.
Qualifications & Experience:
- A University degree in social work, criminology or social sciences (psychology, sociology or education) is required.
- Demonstrate knowledge and a minimum of four -years’ experience working with youth in a residential setting.
- Experience with and an understanding of youth population and the YCJA.
- Certificate in Emergency First Aide, CPR, Crisis Prevention and Intervention, and ASSIST.
- Person Centered and trauma informed approach.
- Demonstrate leadership ability.
- Ability to be flexible, take initiate, work independently and collaboratively with a team.
- Excellent oral and written communication.
- Competency in computer software.
- Valid First Aide Training required.
- ASIST Training required.
- Experience working with youth who are involved in the criminal justice system, combined with a demonstrated understanding of the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
- Experience working in a group home setting. (asset).
- Valid driver’s License.
- Certificate of Conduct, including Vulnerable sector check
- Families and Affordability background check.

Salary: $29.45 starting salary with shift differential evenings and weekends as per collective agreement.
